Dear John,
Yesterday, we faced a significant setback in our fight for gun safety. The Supreme Court's decision to overturn the ATF’s ban on bump stocks is a stark reminder of the powerful influence the gun lobby holds. This ruling endangers public safety, allowing devices that enable semi-automatic firearms to function like machine guns to be legally purchased and possessed by civilians in states that do not have state-level bump stock bans.
These devices are uniquely lethal and have already devastated communities by enabling one person to fire off hundreds of rounds in just seconds. In 2017, a bump stock was used in the Las Vegas shooting that killed 60 people and left over 400 others with gunshot wounds. In this case, the bump stock meant that the shooter was able to fire off more than 1,000 bullets in mere minutes.
Reintroducing these devices into the market not only ignores the devastating impact they have had but also undermines this critical measure aimed at preventing such devastating incidents. This decision highlights the urgent need for commonsense legislative action to prohibit dangerous gun devices and reinforce gun laws that are proven to save lives.
The Alliance for Gun Responsibility is committed to advocating for common-sense gun laws, but we cannot do it alone. We need your help to counter the gun lobby’s influence and protect our communities from further gun violence.
If you’re ready to make an incredible impact on our movement for gun safety, please contribute to the Alliance today. Our average online donation is around $25. Some give more, and others give less. Every donation, no matter the amount, plays a vital role in the fight to make our communities safer.
