Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here Governor Hochul Must Immediately Pardon President Trump Our justice system was founded on the principle of blind justice, yet in an attempt to silence President Trump, this core value was denied to him. I sent a letter to Governor Hochul regarding the recent verdict in the case of The People of the State of New York V Donald J. Trump, which undermined the impartiality and credibility of our justice system by convicting President Trump in an attempt to silence him. This case was based on a targeted investigation in search of crimes to convict the former President for political purposes. As a member of the New York Bar Association and the daughter of a New York State Supreme Court Justice, I am appalled by this abuse of power and the politicized, two-tiered system of justice Governor Kathy Hochul and DA Alvin Bragg have created. This verdict was an insult to our country, and it is evident that it had nothing to do with facts but was an attempt to hinder President Trump's ability to campaign freely. Governor Hochul must immediately pardon President Donald Trump and restore the integrity and faith of our legal system. READ MORE: Another House member calls on New York Democratic Gov. Hochul to pardon Trump: 'Your solemn duty' Do you stand with my calls to pardon President Trump? Yes No Supporting the FY25 NDAA The National Defense Authorization Act is a critical piece of legislation that authorizes funding for our military critical defense programs and improves the quality of life for our servicemembers and their families. The FY25 NDAA works to enhance our deterrence capabilities, counteracts the Chinese Communist Party’s malign influence, and improves the living conditions for servicemembers. Importantly, this year's NDAA reversed the Biden administration's dangerous request to halve the annual Virginia-Class Nuclear Submarine force, which would have a devastating impact on Indo-Pacific deterrence and our commitment to defense in that region through joint efforts with Australia, and the UK via the AUKUS program. Improving the lives of our servicemembers and their families, who make sacrifices every day for our country, was a focal point of this year's NDAA. This bill provides a 19.5% raise for junior enlisted servicemembers, improves on-post housing, ensures access to quality healthcare, and invests in greater access to childcare for military families. As a tenacious advocate for military priorities, I specifically advocated for initiatives that will benefit our servicemembers and their families stationed at Fort Drum, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, and those serving across New York’s 24th Congressional District. Importantly, this bill streamlines spending and safeguards billions of taxpayer dollars to ensure our hard-earned tax dollars are not used to enhance security and are not wasted on the Biden administration's dangerous "woke" policies. I supported multiple amendments that prohibit wasting funding on Green New Deal mandates, unnecessary Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts, and sex reassignment surgeries. Funding for our armed forces must be focused on military readiness, enhancing our defense capabilities, and supporting our servicemembers' quality of life. Included in this bill were two standalone pieces of legislation that I introduced: the FORKS Made in America Act and the Parity for Child Exploitation Offenders Act. The FORKS Made in America Act will require DOD to buy stainless steel flatware from American companies, such as Sherrill Manufacturing. The Parity for Child Exploitation Offenders Act will close loopholes that allow child predators to escape enhanced penalties for sexual crimes involving children. Passing the NDAA is crucial to our defense and national security initiatives. I am eager to see this bill swiftly signed into law to reward our courageous members of the military who answer the call to serve our nation. Attorney General Garland is a Dirty Cop President Biden has admitted to mishandling classified documents, yet AG Garland is engaging in a cover-up and refusing to bring charges against him. Now, he is withholding valuable information from House Republicans, further shielding the President from accountability. This is all while he is orchestrating a witch hunt of an investigation into President Trump. This week, I supported a resolution to hold Attorney General Garland in Contempt of Congress for his failure to comply with the House Judiciary Committee's subpoena for the audiotapes of Special Counsel Robert Hur's interviews with President Joe Biden and the transcript and audio recordings of Hur's interviews with Mark Zwonitzer, President Biden's ghostwriter. Special Counsel Hur's report detailed how President Biden knowingly and willfully removed, mishandled, and disclosed classified documents repeatedly over decades. Hur ultimately did not bring forth any charges, stating, "at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory." This is just a part of the large scheme by the Department of Justice to interfere in the 2024 election on behalf of Joe Biden and the Democrats. I remain dedicated to holding corrupt AG Garland accountable and ensuring the Biden Crime Family is thoroughly investigated and charged for their crimes against the American people. My Votes Explained Transparency in Congress and a well-informed electorate are vital to preserving our self-governing Constitutional Republic. My constituents deserve to know how their members of Congress vote, which is why I have explained every vote I have cast in Congress since I was first elected. To read more about my votes and see the full list with explanations of all the legislation considered this week by the House, please click here. I voted “Yes” on H.R. 6543, the No Hidden Fees on Extra Expenses for Stays Act of 2023. H.R. 6543 prohibits unfair or misleading price advertising for places of short-term lodging and requires accurate price listings that include all mandatory and resort fees. Hidden fees drive up costs for American families that are continuing to grapple with inflation. That is why I supported this legislation to improve transparency and allow individuals and families to be fully informed about prices for hotels, resorts, or other lodging arrangements before they travel. H.R. 6543 passed the House by a vote of 384-25. I voted “Yes” on H.R. 2964, the Wastewater Infrastructure Pollution Prevention and Environmental Safety Act. H.R. 2964 requires the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to create a standardized, uniform label for non-flushable products like cotton swabs, wet wipes, paper towels, and tissues. Many communities in Upstate New York continue to face challenges in maintaining wastewater infrastructure, and blockages from non-flushable products can wreak havoc on older plumbing and wastewater treatment equipment. Simplifying labeling for non-flushable products will save taxpayers millions and prevent future problems for our community’s wastewater infrastructure. H.R. 2964 passed the House by a vote of 351-56. I voted “Yes” on H.Res. 1292, a resolution recommending that the House of Representatives find United States Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with a subpoena duly issued by the Committee on the Judiciary. Attorney General (AG) Garland is a dirty cop. President Biden has admitted to mishandling classified documents, yet AG Garland is engaging in a cover-up by refusing to bring charges against President Biden. Now, he is withholding valuable information from the House Judiciary Committee, further shielding President Biden from accountability. This at the same time he is orchestrating a meritless, politically-driven investigation into President Trump. This scheme is a ploy by the Department of Justice to interfere in the 2024 election on behalf of Joe Biden and the Democrats. House Republicans are dedicated to holding corrupt AG Garland accountable and ensuring the Biden Crime Family is thoroughly investigated and charged for their crimes against the American people. H.Res. 1292 passed the House by a vote of 216-207. I voted “Yes” on H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025. The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is a critical piece of legislation that authorizes funding for vital defense programs and improves the quality of life for our servicemembers and their families. This year's NDAA works to enhance our deterrence capabilities, counteract China's malign influence, and enhance living conditions for our servicemembers. Importantly, this year's NDAA reversed the Biden administration's dangerous request to halve the annual Virginia-class submarine purchase, which would have a devastating impact on our Indo-Pacific deterrence and our defense industrial base. Improving the lives of our servicemembers and their families, who make sacrifices every day for our country, was a focal point of this year's NDAA. This bill provides a 19.5 percent raise for junior enlisted servicemembers, improves on-post housing, ensures access to quality health care, and invests in greater access to childcare for military families. As a tenacious advocate for our military, I specifically advocated for funding initiatives that will benefit our servicemembers and their families at Fort Drum, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, and neighboring communities. Importantly, this bill cracks down on excessive spending and safeguards billions of taxpayer dollars to ensure our hard-earned dollars are not used to fund the Biden administration's "woke" policies. I supported multiple amendments that prohibit wasteful funding for Green New Deal mandates, unnecessary diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, and sex reassignment surgeries. The Parity for Child Exploitation Offenders Act will close loopholes that allow child predators to escape enhanced penalties for sexual crimes involving children. Passing the NDAA is crucial to our defense and national security initiatives. I am eager to see this bill swiftly signed into law to give our brave servicemembers the resources and support they deserve. H.R. 8070 passed the House by a vote of 217-199. I voted “Yes” on S. 138, Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Dispute Act. S. 138 requires the Special Coordinator for Tibet to actively counter China’s disinformation regarding Tibet and its history. This bill also reaffirms U.S. support for the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people and reinforces existing U.S. policy that the Tibet question must be resolved through direct negotiations between Tibet and China. S. 138 passed the House by a vote of 391-26. Andrew Cuomo Must Be Held Accountable New Yorkers have suffered immensely due to Governor Cuomo’s negligent nursing home policies that resulted in the untimely death of 15,000 of our senior citizens. In April 2020, I raised the alarm and called for a federal investigation into Cuomo’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis, where he forced COVID positive patients into nursing homes. In response, Cuomo’s team concealed the true reasons behind the alarming death rates in our community to protect his image and secure a lucrative book deal. This week, disgraced Governor Cuomo testified before Congress, continuing to perpetuate lies and fail to take responsibility for his actions that caused the death of thousands. His testimony is just the first step in the fight to hold disgraced Governor Cuomo and those who aided his criminal behavior accountable. We must deliver justice to the innocent victims and their families and ensure that such a tragic failure in leadership never happens again. Since hearing of his case, I have worked closely with his family, raising awareness of this innocent American's wrongful detention and calling for Ryan to be immediately released. Earlier this year, I introduced H. Res. 965, a resolution Calling for the immediate release of Ryan Corbett, a United States citizen who the Taliban wrongfully detained on August 10, 2022, and condemning the wrongful detention of Americans by the Taliban. This week, this legislation passed the House unanimously, reaffirming Congress's commitment to securing Ryan's release and bringing him home to his loving family. Now, it is up to President Biden to act and bring Ryan home. READ MORE: Congress passes resolution for release of Ryan Corbett from Taliban detention Are You Visiting DC this Summer? Contact us!
