On Wednesday, our attorneys filed a lawsuit against the city of Port Townsend and the Olympic YMCA on Julie’s behalf.
As you’ll recall, Julie frequently visited her local YMCA to swim – and cleaned up in the women’s locker room after.
The City of Port Townsend owns the pool and contracts with the YMCA to operate it.
One day, she heard a male voice while she was showering. Julie pulled back the shower curtain to see what was happening and found a fully-grown man wearing a women’s bathing suit watching two little girls undress.
Like any reasonable grandmother would do, Julie confronted the man and asked him to leave.
But instead of backing her up, the YMCA staff berated Julie for her “discriminatory” response to a man (who identifies as a woman) helping little girls undress.
The YMCA then banned Julie for life, they called the police to kick her out of the building, and THEN they launched a sophisticated smear campaign to paint Julie as a bigot and transphobe in her community.
