Together, we're not just fighting against dirty oil and gas pipelines. We're building a future without fossil fuels where our communities can breathe clean air, drink clean water, and thrive in a stable climate.

To do that, we must stop the expansion of fracked methane gas and dirty oil -- which can't get anywhere without pipelines. If polluting oil and gas companies are successful in building and expanding dangerous leak-prone pipelines, it will further lock us into a future powered by fossil fuels instead of the clean energy that is readily available now.

But we have the power to change that. Below, we've included updates on three major pipeline projects that communities are fighting nationwide:

- Line 5 in the Great Lakes region
- The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) in North Dakota
- The Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP)in West Virginia and Virginia.

Stopping the Line 5 Pipeline

Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline transports 22 million gallons of crude oil and natural gas liquids across 645 miles from Superior, Wisconsin through Michigan and back to Canada. Every. Single. Day. In the last 50 years, the pipeline has had dozens of spills, releasing more than 1.1 million gallons of toxic oil into the environment. The Biden Administration has the opportunity to order Line 5 Shut Down, but instead they are considering permitting the reroute of the pipeline in Wisconsin, allowing its continued operation into the future. Right now, we have a real chance to reverse course and shut down this environmental and health disaster.

Take Action

Join us to call on Biden's Army Corps of Engineers to deny the permits for this re-route and instead shut down this reckless oil pipeline once and for all! Biden can revoke the "presidential permit" for the pipeline if he wants. We must collect comments for the Army Corps of Engineers. Comments close August 4. Shutting Down the Dakota Access Pipeline

In 2016, the Obama administration halted this risky oil pipeline project. Unfortunately, the following year Trump repealed the order and the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) was constructed. Advocates haven't given up -- the Biden administration could reverse course and shutdown this pipeline. Last Fall, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Sierra Club, and partners submitted 100,000 comments demanding that the Biden Administration shut down this pipeline. This fall, the Army Corps will determine its fate. This week, hundreds rallied in front of the White House in support of clean water, Tribal sovereignty, and to call on the Biden Administration to stop this risky project. DAPL has no part in our clean energy future.

Join a day of action to stop DAPL! The Army Corps of Engineers is due to release its final environmental impact statement needed for this project to continue after various lawsuits. We need to hold the Biden administration accountable to its climate commitment and demand he shut down this pipeline. Next steps for the Mountain Valley Pipeline

The Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) is another unwanted 303-mile proposed pipeline that cuts across Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. It poses dangers to water, wildlife, forests, and local communities. Unfortunately on Tuesday, June 11, The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted approval on Tuesday to Equitrans Midstream Corp. to start operations. This is a slap in the face to the communities who have fought tirelessly over the last decade to protect their land and water. We are still pushing to stop approvals to build the proposed Southgate Extension of the MVP pipeline system.

"As a single mom of four, I work hard every day to teach my kids to be kind, healthy, independent, and happy. [But] the sacred land I raised my children in is being polluted and torn apart by the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Asset managers -- institutions that manage the investments and retirement savings of pensions, corporations, and everyday Americans -- play a big role in bringing this disaster to my doorstep. These companies are robbing my kids' of a future while they risk their investors' money on unnecessary fossil fuel projects. I won’t let these companies’ complicity go unnoticed." - Kellie Ferguson, organizer with the Protect Our Water, Heritage, Rights (POWHR) Coalition. Her community of Giles County, Virginia is directly impacted by the Mountain Valley Pipeline.

Take Action

Pipelines like MVP cannot be built and run without funding from Wall Street's largest asset managers. Asset managers are companies that manage our retirement savings, such as pensions and 401(k)s. They are using OUR savings to pour funds into pipelines, fracking, LNG, and more to expand dangerous fossil fuels. Demand asset managers keep fossil fuels in the ground!
