We’ve been clear - a vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to stand up for carers.
Wendy Chamberlain’s Carers’ Leave Act is just one example of what Liberal Democrats in Parliament can achieve. Now law, it gives carers five days of unpaid leave per year, helping them better balance work and care.
But we must do more. We will fix the social care crisis to save the NHS and ensure everyone gets the care they need, when and where they need it.
This includes increasing the Carer's Allowance by £20 a week and raising the eligibility threshold, so more people can receive it. | | | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 4 mins | We’ll also help young carers, three in ten of whom miss school due to the pressures they are under.
Our Young Carers Pupil Premium will give more money to schools for additional support, such as tutoring and booster classes. | | | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 4 mins | | | | Protecting our green spaces | Ed’s tour has taken in some of the most idyllic spots in Britain, from our great lakes to beautiful coasts. Our cherished green spaces are a source of national pride and must be protected for generations to come.
This week, we announced plans to create three new national parks in England, boost the annual National Parks budget by £50 million, and plant 60 million trees a year. | | | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 1 min | | Protecting our rivers and beaches | People across the country are outraged that the Conservatives have let water companies dump filthy sewage into our rivers and beaches, damaging the environment and making swimmers sick.
We need tough action now.
We will replace Ofwat with the Clean Water Authority, empowered to take decisive action against polluting water companies. This includes banning bonuses for water company bosses, revoking licences of failing companies, and setting legally binding targets on discharges.
We will ensure water companies put the environment and their customers first. | | | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 3 mins | | | | Cutting food prices and backing British farmers | With the cost of the weekly food shop rising nearly a third since 2019, we’re calling for a new National Food Strategy to cut prices and back British farmers.
This includes boosting the farming budget by £1bn a year and prioritising this strategy within the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, involving experts from agriculture, fishing, and nutrition. | | | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 2 mins | | | | | Making a splash! | A roundup of our achievements since the campaign began:
