Happy Friday. This was a busy week for the Second District, both here in Illinois, as well as in Washington. I was pleased to celebrate federal funding in Campus, IL, join community members in Harvey for neighborhood revitalization, and stand with House Democratic leadership to outline our vision for ending the nation’s gun violence epidemic.

On June 22nd, my office will host our Kankakee Veteran Housing Expo. This event is designed to help veterans and other community members connect with vital housing resources.

$1.32M for Water Infrastructure in Campus, IL

I had the pleasure of joining the Village of Campus to celebrate the allocation of over $1.32 million in federal water infrastructure funding. This funding is part of the USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan & Grants Program and includes an additional $650,000 loan from the agency. Planned improvements include replacing water main valves, installing new fire hydrants, and installing new water meters.

Harvey NeighborWorks Day

It was inspiring to see community members from across Harvey come together for NeighborWorks Day to reinvest in the community, clearing vacant lots and securing abandoned properties. Projects like these renew our commitment to a prosperous Harvey.

House Democrats United for Gun Safety 

I joined Assistant Democratic Leader Joe Neguse this week to discuss the efforts House Democrats are making to keep our communities safe from gun violence. Two years ago, we helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first federal gun safety legislation in 26 years. It was a first step – not our last. Our work is far from over, but I remain committed to ending gun violence.
