This week, I introduced the No American Land for Communist China Act to prevent the CCP from purchasing land adjacent to federally owned land. Preventing the Chinese Communist Party from Undermining Our National Security Institutions This week, I introduced the No American Land for Communist China Act to prevent the CCP from purchasing land adjacent to federally owned land. As a member of the House Select Committee on the CCP, I have been closely watching the rise in cases of the CCP’s attempts at undermining our institutions. From spying on sensitive national security sites to buying up American farmland, it is clear we are vulnerable to their malicious efforts. This bill strengthens our domestic defenses and protects critical federal lands against these foreign actors that aim to deepen their already dangerous influence on the world stage. The No American Land for Communist China Act would protect our military installations, national labs, and land with critical resources from being purchased by our greatest adversary, and I am proud to have the support of the Select Committee, namely Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI). Visit My Website to Read the Full Legislation Ensuring Responsible Spending in the FY25 Appropriations Bills Throughout this week, the House Appropriations Committee successfully passed our sixth bill and sent it to the House floor for consideration. Among the appropriations bills that passed includes: The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs funding bill, which fully supports our veterans and veterans' health related programs and has already passed in the House. The State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, which includes an 11% increase for the Bureau in charge of dismantling the fentanyl and illicit supply chain—a huge win for fighting the fentanyl crisis. Homeland Security Appropriations, which provides the necessary funds to secure our borders. Financial Services and General Government Appropriations, which fully funds the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the Drug Free Communities Program, which is used by members of my Central Washington Fentanyl Task Force. In each of these bills, myself and other members of the House Appropriations Committee have focused on reigning in irresponsible federal spending and securing the key conservative priorities that the American people deserve. I am pleased with this year's progress and look forward to passing all twelve appropriations bills while continuing to deliver for the good people of Central Washington. Reinforcing My Commitment to Our Servicemembers Today, the House of Representatives passed the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 (NDAA). The name of the bill could not be more fitting, because not only does this year's NDAA outline our defense priorities—it also ensures our servicemembers are well taken care of. This legislation will: Increase compensation for junior enlisted servicemembers to bolster recruitment and retention. Improve housing, access to medical care, childcare, and schools for our military families. Support the spouses of our military families, which is critical because our military spouses face challenging and constantly changing work conditions. Reinforcing our commitment to the brave men and women who are fighting to protect our freedoms is of the utmost importance, and this NDAA invests in the quality of life for our servicemembers—for it is their commitment that has and will continue to protect our way of life. Recognizing Central Washington's Congressional Award Gold Medal Recipient Yesterday, I was honored to present Celeste Blair of Richland with the Congressional Award Gold Medal—one of the highest honors Congress can award local youth. Earning The Congressional Award Gold Medal requires a significant commitment. Each participant must spend two years or more completing at least 400 hours of community service, 200 hours of both personal development and physical fitness activities, and a four-night Expedition or Exploration. Celeste has shown incredible leadership skills through her service with both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and has demonstrated the value of helping. She is an upstanding member of her community and well-deserving of this prestigious award. Keep up the good work, Celeste, you have represented Central Washington well! Be Prepared this Wildfire Season The catastrophic wildfires facing our region are, unfortunately, something that we have come to expect during the dry, summer months. That said, I encourage you to continue to take caution to protect your families, homes, businesses, and communities. I am working in Congress to ensure our region receives the federal support we need to fight and manage these wildfires, but it is important to stay prepared. Please visit my website and check out my wildfire toolkit, which includes a list of federal, state, and local resources to help keep you and your family safe from wildfires. Attendees learned about how animal welfare activists are working to end animal agriculture, especially ranching on federal lands. Thank you for joining us, Ethan!
