HOUSE PASSES KEY NATIONAL SECURITY PACKAGE TO COUNTER CHINA, DISRUPT ILLEGAL DRUG TRAFFICKING

Today, the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2025. From supporting military families to countering aggression from adversarial countries like China, this critical national security package continues to position the United States as a dominant force for peace and stability around the world.

Here are a few key highlights from the bill:

  • Supports service members and their families by authorizing a 4.5 percent pay raise and improving the cost-of-living adjustment to ensure rising prices are accounted for
  • Protects our national security by supporting our democratic allies, including by authorizing funds to train Taiwan and other partner nations to resist China’s aggression and fully funding joint U.S.-Israel missile defense programs
  • Improves security at the southern border by authorizing the creation of a new task force command center to disrupt illegal drug trafficking

Congress has passed the NDAA on time for six decades because it plays a crucial role in protecting the American people, which will always be a top priority. Learn more by visiting my website:

This week, I was also proud to support a bipartisan resolution, H.Con.Res.27, condemning Russia’s detention of opposition leader Vladimir Kara-Murza. The United States must continue to stand with all those fighting for freedom and democracy across the world.

MY BILL TO SUPPORT STUDENTS FACING DISCRIMINATION PASSES COMMITTEE WITH BIPARTISAN SUPPORT

Yesterday, the Education and Workforce Committee advanced my Civil Rights Protection Act, which I just introduced last week!

As higher education institutions grapple with an alarming increase in antisemitic activity targeting Jewish students, my bill would ensure colleges and universities are fulfilling their responsibilities to protect students from discrimination. More specifically, it would bolster transparency and accountability at colleges and universities by requiring them to inform students of their procedures for filing discrimination reports. It would also require them to provide timely updates on the status of complaints filed.

RECEIVING THE SALVATION ARMY’S FIGHT FOR GOOD AWARD

Earlier this week, I was humbled and honored to receive the Salvation Army’s Fight for Good Award. This recognition is given to members of Congress who champion legislation to alleviate poverty. Last year, I was proud to usher the HOME Act through the House with broad bipartisan support. The proposal would help lift veterans out of homelessness by supporting nonprofit organizations, like the Salvation Army, that provide transitional housing.

I’m grateful for the Salvation Army’s tireless efforts to serve those in need, and I promise to continue being a strong partner in advancing their mission of investing in the long-term growth and success of our communities!

SURVEY FINDS COMMON GROUND AMONG OREGONIANS

Oregonians have made it clear that they value bipartisan leadership from their elected officials. In Congress, I’ve advocated for pragmatic solutions to the biggest challenges facing the 5th District, and that’s why I'm ranked the most bipartisan member of the Oregon delegation. Moving forward, I’ll continue working to find common ground with my colleagues to deliver results for Oregon families.

ATTENDING THE SISTERS RODEO

Shawn and I had a great time last weekend at the Sisters Rodeo — nothing compares to the Biggest Little Show in the World!

Although I had left before the incident occurred, I’m glad to hear those who were injured by the escaped bull are recovering and home safe from the hospital. A special thank you to event staff, law enforcement, and medical personnel for your quick response!

ONE MORE THING!

Happy Father’s Day weekend to my dad, my husband Shawn, and to all the incredible and loving dads out there! 💙
