For years, Democrats and Republicans have used immigration as a political football, passing the blame back and forth. At a time when we need real solutions, the President’s latest executive action is just politics as usual. 

Please read my latest op-ed with State Senator Edgar Flores, published by MSNBC. We break down a set of common sense ideas that a majority of people can agree on to improve our immigration system.

We write: “The status quo in our immigration system does no good for immigrants. The years of focus on scoring political points have not yielded any solutions — nor have they addressed voters’ concerns. If we can move past divisive rhetoric, Congress and the president can get something big done on immigration — something worthy of American ideals.”

Securing our border while also showing compassion for those who have risked their lives to find the safety of their own must be key values for our party.
