We had reason to celebrate yesterday when the Supreme Court rejected a far-right legal group’s argument for reversing the FDA’s guidance on mifepristone, a medication used in non-surgical abortion procedures.

 

The justices potentially saved some women’s lives yesterday, but today they guaranteed mass death.

 

Just hours ago, the Supreme Court removed regulations on bump stocks, an attachment for firearms that gives them the same capabilities as a machine gun.

Bump stocks were banned by Trump’s ATF after the device was used in the Mandalay Bay shooting in 2017. That tragedy saw 60 deaths and over 400 people wounded in 11 minutes.

 

John, machine guns have been banned in the U.S. for 90 years, and even Congress has recognized bump stocks as a form of machine gun weaponry. But as always, our Supreme Court chose the gun lobby and far-right extremists over the safety of our kids.

 

House Democrats introduced a bill to regulate bump stocks years ago, but Republicans have stopped it from coming to a vote for the past 18 MONTHS. 

 

For my family and yours, I WILL get the Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act out of committee next year and fight for other necessary gun control measures. First, I’m fighting to win this race – and I can only do it with you by my side.

I’m running against one of the NRA’s favorite lawmakers. Mike Simpson has accepted hundreds of thousands in gun lobby contributions. He called the NRA’s endorsement an honor. And when a bipartisan bill for gun reform reached the House, Simpson voted against it.

 

Since Mike took office in 1998, the number of mass shootings has skyrocketed. John, firearms are now the leading cause of death for American children and teens. Still, Mike’s done nothing to help.

 

There are only two sides to choose from when it comes to mass shootings and gun violence: the victims or the murderers. I know which side Mike Simpson is on, and now we all know where the Supreme Court stands.

 

This isn’t just about the shootings we see on national news or watch unfold on TikTok and YouTube. Mass shootings happen everyday in our own communities.

 

On Father’s Day last year, a shooter murdered four of his neighbors in Shoshone County. I could be next. My kids could be next.

 

John, this campaign is up against an immoral, filthy-rich fundraising machine backing my opponent and hundreds of other politicians with the gun lobby’s blood money.

 

I know the odds of winning aren’t great. That’s why I need you with me. One dad can’t outraise Mike Simpson, but together we can.

If we pull this off in November, ID-02’s House seat will save lives and protect our kids from firearms, our mothers and daughters from attacks on their reproductive rights, our air and water from corporate pollution, and our country from extremists like Mike Simpson.
