Jack, the Supreme Court is mired in scandal and corruption. New revelations of misconduct arise almost weekly. This Court regularly makes decisions that affect our daily lives and, therefore, must have oversight and transparency around the bases for those decisions. This has not been the case and now, they no longer have that public trust.

Recent revelations about Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas have sparked outrage and demands for greater accountability. The current system lacks checks and balances, allowing justices to operate with near impunity. For a democracy to thrive, we must hold all branches of government to the highest ethical standards, and the Supreme Court is no exception.

The push for Supreme Court reform is gaining momentum in Congress. Senate Democrats are advancing a bill to impose an ethics code on the Supreme Court, similar to those governing lower courts, but Republicans are standing in the way. Additionally, moves to expand the Supreme Court are underway by Democrats in Congress, but face the same Republican obstruction.

We must make clear that corruption in our nation's highest court is unacceptable, and we won't stand for it. We are calling on Congress to immediately enact reforms–via codes of ethics and expansion–in order to ensure accountability and trust are reestablished in the Supreme Court.
