Yesterday, the Supreme Court unanimously upheld access to mifepristone, a widely available abortion pill, rejecting a challenge from anti-abortion groups who sued the FDA for making it easier for doctors to prescribe, and pregnant women to obtain, this abortion method. I’d like to tell you that because of this ruling, abortion rights in this country are safe, but Republicans have made it their mission to run coordinated attacks on the future of reproductive freedom. In fact, in the decision itself, Justice Kavanaugh noted that there were other ways to seek regulatory and legislative restrictions on mifepristone. This decision in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine came down to a technicality – the Court determined that the plaintiffs lacked standing to bring the case. This is a short term victory that does not mitigate the real threat of extremist laws being presented to us every day and in every election.
This past Sunday, a significant number of New Jersey residents came together to celebrate Puerto Rico Day. This day of celebration honored the rich cultural heritage and contributions of our Puerto Rican community. I am proud of our representatives that come from rich cultural hubs like Newark, Union City and Paterson and represent New Jerseyans from there and beyond. The pivotal involvement of our seven Puerto Rican state legislators serves as a testament to their unwavering dedication and commitment to representing and advocating for New Jerseyans.

Councilperson Jo Miller, an out-transgender leader, grew up in South Jersey and in 2023 became the first out-transgender person to serve in elected office in SJ history and the first Democrat to do so in NJ. A year prior to being elected, Jo decided to forgo the rest of law school to fight back against the wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and regulations in the political field. As Deputy Executive Director of the Camden County Democratic Committee, Jo maintains the county party’s day-to-day operations and has successfully pushed internal changes to permit nonbinary people to seek committee seats and formed Camden County Democratic Committee’s first LGBTQ+ Caucus.

Larry Traylor is a proud resident of the city of Trenton. He is currently the youngest elected member of the Trenton Board of Education. Larry has a bachelor's in Political Science and Africana Studies from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Larry’s career has been rooted in election compliance and local government, serving on various political campaigns. Larry has worked on Phil Murphy's 2021 Gubernatorial Campaign, A’Dorian Murray-Thomas 2023 County Commissioner’s Race, Teska Frisby’s City Council Races in 2022 & 2024, and Dan Benson’s Mercer County Executive race. He currently finds himself serving the Mercer County Board of Commissioners as an aide to Commissioner Samuel T. Frisby Sr. Larry is involved with many organizations including; Treasurer of the Mercer County Young Democrats, New Jersey Young Democrats LGBTQ Co-Chair, Trenton NAACP, New Jersey State Conference of the NAACP Executive Committee, and a member of the 2023 class of New Leaders Council.

Governor Phil Murphy and Acting Education Commissioner Kevin Dehmer have announced two grants totaling $1.79 million to enhance computer science education in schools. The grants will help 27 school districts and charter schools establish or expand high-quality computer science courses in high schools, and fund three Computer Science Hubs for teacher training operated by three colleges and universities.
These grants, "Expanding Computer Science Professional Learning" and "Expanding Computer Science High School Courses," were funded through the Governor’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget.
“These grants will better prepare New Jersey students to thrive in today’s information-driven economy by providing greater access to high-quality computer science and technological design education,” said Governor Phil Murphy . “New Jersey is ripe for this kind of innovation in our schools. We have the talent, the infrastructure, and the job market that will fuel opportunities for students across the state.”

Preliminary data from the FBI shows that in the first quarter of this year, there has been major reductions in crime throughout the country, including one of the lowest rates for all violent crime in 50 years. At a time when Trump is touting immigration and crime as reasons for his candidacy, we should look at the statistics and the data for accurate information. As New Jerseyans and Americans, we all want to feel safe in our communities and President Biden has done the work to implement strategies that deliver measurable results.
From the America Rescue Plan - which every Republican voted against - delivered $15 billion to cities to hire and retain more cops and keep communities safe to the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, we are seeing real results in our communities.
