Congressman Kim’s Statement Following His Vote Against the Partisan Republican Defense Bill

Today, Congressman Kim released the following statement after voting against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025 in opposition to partisan policies added on the House Floor by House Republicans.

“The National Defense Authorization Act has a decades long history of bipartisanship where both parties worked to find common ground to protect our country. In that spirit, I supported the bipartisan bill when it came up for a vote at our committee even though I had concerns over a number of provisions. Today, I cannot support the harmful and partisan changes made by Republicans that have been brought up on the House Floor. Our servicemembers deserve better than using this important bill to play political games. I will work to make sure the final bill focuses on strengthening our defense and standing up for military families, not scoring political points and pushing an extremist agenda.”

Promoting a strong national defense and taking care of our servicemembers are bipartisan issues. Earlier this week Congressman Kim urged his colleagues to leave partisan politics out of the bill and deliver a National Defense Authorization Act that focuses on the wellbeing of our servicemembers.

Congressman Kim Helps Secure $558 Million to Protect Thousands of Local Workers’ Retirement Benefits

Workers anywhere in the country and in any industry should be able to rely on the retirement benefits they worked day in and day out earning. This week, we were thrilled to share that two local pension plans, CWA/ITU Negotiated Pension Plan and the Teamsters Local 102, will receive a total of $558 million to protect over 24,000 workers in the transportation and printing industries’ retirement benefits. Congressman Kim was proud to help create the Special Financial Assistance (SFA) Program that delivered this funding through the American Rescue Plan in 2021 and is proud to stand by our local workers, their hard-earned retirement, and continue to defend every Americans’ right to work and retire with dignity.

In April, Congressman Kim and the SFA also helped secure $279 million to protect 10,252 service industry workers’ retirement benefits!

Defending Reproductive Freedom

This past Wednesday, Congressman Kim released the following statement after signing a discharge petition to bring the Right to Contraception Act to the Floor for a vote.

“With reproductive rights under attack across the nation, Congress has a responsibility to act. Instead, Americans are watching Republicans fail to defend Americans’ basic health and privacy. It’s been nearly two years since I first voted with House Democrats to pass the Right to Contraception Act in the wake of the destructive Dobbs decision, and its protections are as necessary as ever. Today, I proudly signed my name to a discharge petition to force a vote on this critical legislation. We have an opportunity to safeguard a fundamental freedom for all Americans and I will use every tool possible in Congress to move this bill forward.”

Congressman Kim previously voted to pass the legislation in July 2022.

Celebrating Students on their Military Service

It is a distinct honor to help nominate incredible students to attend our nation’s prestigious military service academies. This week, we were proud to bring families together to celebrate their choice to serve our nation in uniform and their courage and commitment to our country.

New Jersey League of Conservation Voters 10th Annual Gala

Congressman Kim had the privilege of speaking at the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters’ gala this week. From historic investments to combat climate change in the Inflation Reduction Act and in the Infrastructure Law, it was a great opportunity to celebrate the collective impact of local, state, and federal partnerships to achieve progress and look to what’s ahead.

Congratulations to our NJ-03 Congressional Award Gold Medalists

New Jersey is well represented in this year’s Congressional Award Gold Medalists! Congressman Kim welcomed our local medalists and their families to the Capitol yesterday to celebrate their extraordinary dedication to community service, personal development, and physical fitness! We know they are going to continue to do incredible things for our state and country.

Thank You to our Men and Women in Uniform

Today we celebrate the United States Army’s 249th birthday and earlier this week, we recognized Women Veterans Recognition Day! We love taking these special opportunities to show our gratitude and honor our servicemembers and veterans for their selfless service and courage fighting for our freedoms and defending our nation.
