During Pride Month, we are proud to acknowledge Karla Schumann, the Secretary-Treasurer, Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 104. Karla has been an active member of the union for over 35 years and has extensive experience in contract negotiations, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services, arbitrations, and various panel systems.
She has served on several negotiating committees, including the IBT/UPS National Negotiating Committee, the Western Region Supplemental Negotiating Committee, and the Southwest Package and Sort Rider Negotiating Committee. Karla also holds the position of Recording Secretary for Teamsters Joint Council No. 3 Executive Board and serves on the AZ-AFL-CIO Executive Council. Additionally, she acts as a Trustee on the Western Region 177 Healthcare Fund and the Arizona Laborers/Teamsters Trust Fund. In 2023, she was appointed as a Trustee on the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Fund and also appointed as a Trustee on the Western Conference of Teamsters Legal Service Trust Fund.
Her dedication to the members is her strength. Karla has been an advocate for equality in the workplace, even before same-sex marriage was legalized. She is happily married to Dawn Schumann, and they call Phoenix home along with their beloved fur babies, Sedona and Bisbee. With seven children and seven grandchildren, family is precious to them both. When they're not working, you'll likely find them exploring national parks or spending quality time with their loved ones.
