Dear John,

I want to start by taking a moment to honor the life and service of Minneapolis Police Officer Jamal Mitchell, who died in the line of duty and was laid to rest in Maple Grove this week. This loss is felt by Jamal’s family and the law enforcement community and serves a devastating reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers take on the job every day on behalf of their communities. My thoughts are with Officer Mitchell’s loved ones and our law enforcement family across Minnesota.

This week I spent time both in the Second District and in Washington for votes.

I announced a new push to secure funding for 15 projects around our district, with a focus on public safety and law enforcement, local infrastructure and public health. This is just the beginning of a long process as we fight to bring your tax dollars for these projects home, and I will continue to work until they make it across the finish line.

Just this week I announced two new community investments, including a $1 million investment in the Le Sueur Water Treatment Facility, and $500,000 to help build an inclusive playground in Apple Valley.

I’ll keep working to make common sense, bipartisan investments in our district.

In DC this week, my bipartisan LIVE Beneficiaries Act with Republican Rep. Gus Bilirakis unanimously passed the Energy and Commerce Committee. This bill would help stop Medicaid from sending to recipients who are deceased and help make sure your tax dollars are used responsibly. Next step for my bipartisan bill – a vote on the House floor.

Here’s what else I was up to this week:

Announcing new investments for the Le Sueur Water Treatment Facility

I visited Le Sueur Mayor Shawn Kirby and local leaders to celebrate nearly $1 million in federal funds to increase the treatment capacity of Le Sueur’s water treatment facility. I’ll keep working to make investments that ensure Minnesotans can access clean, safe drinking water.

Visiting a Northfield Family Farm

I also visited the Kluver family farm in Northfield to see firsthand the hard work family farmers in Minnesota do to feed and fuel our nation. I’ll keep fighting to ensure Minnesota’s local farmers and ag producers get the support they need.

Making Apple Valley more inclusive for our kids

We also celebrated the work we did with Apple Valley leaders to secure $500,000 in federal funding to help build an inclusive playground, creating a more accessible space for Apple Valley residents of all ages & strengthening our community.

On Wednesday evening I spent time watching the Congressional Baseball Game. We cheered on our colleagues and enjoyed the nice weather. It was a tough loss for the Democrats. We take the field for the bipartisan Congressional Softball Game in two weeks!

Next week I will be back in Minnesota doing more of what I love – meeting with constituents and traveling across the district. I hope you enjoy your weekend!

Until next time,
