The 12th anniversary of DACA is a reminder that as much as we as individuals have grown, and changed over the past decade, DACA has not kept up.
In 2017, I joined United We Dream as an organizer, and every day since I’ve witnessed the passion and organizing power of immigrant youth like myself fired up to fight for our communities. Tomorrow marks 12 years since we organized and won DACA, one of our movement’s biggest victories, but we’re still fighting for much more.
There are still millions of undocumented youth locked out of the program, and thousands of DACA recipients like myself waiting to hear the fate of DACA and whether we’ll be able to continue to live, work, and remain with our families in the place we consider home. Â
We cannot allow another year to pass us by without the permanent protections our communities have been relentlessly fighting for. The Biden Administration does not have to wait for the courts to end DACA to deliver the protections we need. They can take action now to ensure the conservative Fifth Circuit Court does not put the future of DACA recipients and our families on the line.
