THE WEEK's BIG 3

Vandals attacked the homes of several Brooklyn Museum employees. Museum Director Anne Pasternak found red paint smeared on her home and graffiti that included inverted red triangles and antisemitic phrases. A pro-Palestinian mob demanded New York City subway riders identify if they were Zionists. This unfolded as protesters shouted antisemitic chants and waved Hamas and Hezbollah flags outside the Nova Exhibit on Wall Street. ADL’s most recent Online Hate and Harassment survey concluded that Muslims, Jews, and members of the LGBTQ community are the most targeted victims of hate.

Read on for more on these headlines, news you can use to fight hate and the latest info about ADL from around the country.

Vandals splash graffiti on home of Jewish Director of Brooklyn Museum

“Vandals attacked the Brooklyn Heights home of Anne Pasternak, director of the museum, by smearing red paint and graffiti across the entry of her apartment building and hanging a banner that accused her of being a ‘white-supremacist Zionist.’ The Brooklyn Museum has had a fraught relationship with some community organizers, who have staged protests throughout Ms. Pasternak’s tenure. During the Israel-Hamas war, the institution’s grounds  have become a  gathering spot for pro-Palestinian activists who claim there is a link between wealthy trustees and the military-industrial complex in Israel — an accusation that museum officials have denied.”: THE NEW YORK TIMES READ MORE

+Jonathan Greenblatt Tweet:  As I told @KateBolduan on @CNN -- from protestors chanting "long live 10/7" to targeted vandalism of Jewish homes, the alarm bells on #antisemitism are ringing louder than ever. Government leaders must take action to ensure the safety of the Jewish community.

'Raise your hand if you're a Zionist': Anti-Israel mob dares Zionists to identify themselves

“A pro-Palestinian mob challenged passengers aboard a crowded New York City subway car to identify themselves as Zionists on Monday, as shown in videos that have gone viral on social media. The demonstrators can be heard chanting, “Raise your hand if you’re a Zionist. This is your chance to get out.” After nobody responded, a man shouted, ‘Okay, no Zionists here. We’re good.’”: The Jerusalem Post READ MORE

+ADL Tweet: Extremely disturbed by the horrifying incident on the NYC subway where it appears that Zionists and Jews were singled out. No one should be harassed or threatened because of their identities.

ADL says Muslims, Jews, members of LGBTQ community targeted most in online harassment

“More than half of Americans experience online hate and harassment in their lifetimes and numbers are rising, according to a new report from the Anti-Defamation League, amid a surge in antisemitic incidents in the United States and around the world. The antisemitism watchdog’s sixth annual  survey  on online harassment found that among adults, the groups most affected by the issue were LGBTQ+ (49%) Muslims (47%) and Jews (34%). ‘The hate we’re seeing online, doesn’t stay online — it causes real harm and violence in people’s lives. It’s high time everyone stepped up to keep communities and marginalized groups safe from hate and harassment,” said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.’” The Times of Israel READ MORE

+ADL Tweet: Reports of severe online hate & harassment increased in 2024 from 18% to 22%, according to the 2024 survey by the ADL Center for Tech & Society. 56% of all Americans have reported experiencing online harassment in their lifetimes.
