Article I of the Constitution makes clear the power that Congress holds to conduct critical oversight and investigations of the Executive and Judicial branches. The Founders wanted the Legislative Branch, being Congress, to serve as a check on the other two branches of government. So why do I bring up Article I? As you may have seen this week, House Republicans passed H.Res.1292, a resolution finding Attorney General Garland in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with the subpoenas from the House Judiciary Committee and the House Oversight and Accountability Committee requesting that he turn over audio recordings of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. I cast my vote in favor of this resolution not only to safeguard the integrity of Congress’ explicit oversight authorities, but also to hold the Attorney General accountable.
Special Counsel Hur’s bombshell report on President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents was released back in February, but the American people are still in the dark about the accuracy of the written transcript. Attorney General Garland should release these audio recordings so that the American people know exactly what was said. The process thus far of obtaining this information has been anything but ordinary.
Below are a few additional reasons why these audio recordings matter:
- They provide the best concrete evidence of what was really said during the transcribed interviews between President Biden, Mark Zwonitzer, his ghostwriter, and Special Counsel Hur.
- They remain vital to the Committees’ legislative oversight efforts.
- They are also relevant to the ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
Here’s the bottom line: Congress has the authority to determine the exact, necessary materials it needs to conduct its own investigations. The Attorney General’s refusal to comply with lawful subpoenas stands in stark contrast to Article I of the Constitution. This is an issue that we take with the utmost seriousness. As I have said before, having the last name of “Biden” does not make one immune to accountability and the rule of law.
My Latest Interview
Recently, I joined Fox News Digital to discuss Northwestern University President Michael Schill’s stonewalling of the Education and Workforce Committee’s ongoing antisemitism investigation. This conduct is unbecoming of a university president and proves just how unserious he and his administration are about combatting antisemitism at Northwestern. I have also sent a letter to President Schill and Northwestern Board of Trustees Chair Peter J. Barris warning that the Committee is prepared to subpoena documents and information regarding the university’s deficient response. We will follow the facts and proceed accordingly.

Flag Day
Today, Americans across the nation are coming together to celebrate Flag Day. On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress agreed to the design of the American flag and wrote, “Resolved, that the Flag of the thirteen United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the Union be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation.” The American flag, in my opinion, is the greatest symbol of freedom in the entire world – it will always remain that way. Happy Flag Day.
