This month is Gun Violence awareness month — we need to pass an assault weapons ban.

Time and time again, Republicans have obstructed and prevented the passing of common sense gun control reforms. I will never stop fighting to protect every American from the gun violence epidemic in this country.

As the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, I am proud to have worked alongside my colleagues to pass legislation that will protect our communities like the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. The bill expanded background checks towards all sales of guns and closed loopholes.

We cannot wait any longer - the time to act is now to pass an assault weapons ban that will truly address the epidemic. Since Mike Johnson and other MAGA Republicans have taken control of the House, there has been no meaningful work towards gun violence prevention.
