It’s been true for a while that our state is home to one of the most extreme and irresponsible Republican Parties in the nation. But they’ve hit an appalling new low. I’m not going to repeat the ugliness of the CO GOP’s recent attacks on LGBTQ+ Americans, but I am outraged by their choice to echo the hateful, dehumanizing rhetoric of the Westboro Baptist Church. I also want to place what’s happened in its broader context: The current CO GOP chairman has publicly embarked on a “purify and purge” campaign to ensure that every single person who belongs to the party is 100% devoted to Donald Trump and willing to echo his lies about the 2020 election. And just in the last few months, the party chairman called for privatizing Medicare, urged all parents to pull their children out of public school, and appeared in a video with self-described white nationalists. Here’s the thing: in the last election, the CO GOP made it clear that they’d like nothing better than to defeat me. We faced a barrage of deeply personal and false attack ads, and it took everything we had to fight back. I’m committed to fighting back against extremism, protecting our democracy, and fighting for the regular families Washington too often ignores. It’s the honor of my life to serve this community in Congress, and I’m willing to face down attacks from extremists to keep doing this important work.
