Supreme Court Rejects Abortion Pill Lawsuit in Unanimous Decision

Daily Wire: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a challenge to the abortion pill in a setback for the pro-life movement. In a unanimous 9-0 ruling, the justices rejected a lawsuit from a group of doctors opposed to abortion who were pushing for more restrictions on mifepristone, one of two drugs frequently taken together to cause an abortion. The ruling means mifepristone pills can continue to be mailed to patients without seeing a doctor in person. In the opinion of the court, Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that the doctors who brought the case lacked standing to challenge the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) previous approval of the abortion pill (Daily Wire). President Biden Promises Not to Commute Hunter’s Gun Charge Ruling
National Review: President Joe Biden said Thursday that he would not commute Hunter’s sentence and renewed his promise not to pardon his son after a jury found him guilty of three federal gun charges on Tuesday. Biden addressed his son’s conviction at the Group of Seven conference in Italy, where he joined world leaders to address matters of national security. “I’m extremely proud of my son Hunter,” Biden said. “He has overcome an addiction. He is one of the brightest, most decent men I know.” “I will not pardon him,” Biden added (National Review). USA Today: He faces up to 25 years in prison for the three charges, though first-time, nonviolent offenders typically receive shorter sentences. Many legal experts do not believe incarceration is likely for the president’s son. While a presidential pardon exonerates a convicted individual of all guilt in their crime, a commutation keeps the conviction intact but typically reduces or removes the punishment (USA Today).

U.S., Ukraine Agree to 10-Year Security Deal
Washington Post: President Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky plan Thursday to sign a 10-year security agreement that will commit Washington to supply Kyiv with a wide range of military assistance, national security adviser Jake Sullivan said, in a bid to bolster Ukraine’s fight with Russia. The deal aims to commit future U.S. administrations to support Ukraine, even if former president Donald Trump wins November’s election, officials said. It will be a framework for a long-term effort by the United States to help develop Ukraine’s armed forces, which have innovated on drone warfare and other cutting-edge techniques in the fight against Russia, but are also desperately outgunned and in need of modern weapons (Washington Post). Newsweek: But the deal does not commit the U.S. to send troops to Ukraine to defend it in the event of a future attack.President Joe Biden has said repeatedly since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, 2022 that he would not send U.S. troops to fight in the war. NATO members are committed to defending each other if a country in the alliance is attacked. Ukraine is seeking to join NATO but the Biden administration has signaled that’s unlikely until after the war with Russia is over (Newsweek).

Congressional Baseball Game Interrupted by Far-Left Protesters
Katie Pavlich: Republicans came out ahead in Wednesday’s Congressional Baseball Game, 31-11, marking the fourth year in a row the GOP has been victorious. But the event was interrupted a couple times by the usual suspects. Ahead of the national anthem, pro-Hamas activists along the Democrats’ side chanted “Free Palestine,” but Republicans quickly broke out in “USA” chants in response. That wasn’t the only interruption.  Green activists from Climate Defense stormed the field but were quickly tackled and arrested by Capitol Police (Townhall). Climate Defiance: Eight of us have been arrested for shutting down the Congressional Baseball Game. They are behind bars right now. Make no mistake: It’s the Members of Congress who should be locked up (X).

Associated Press: A takeover of a building at California State University, Los Angeles, by demonstrators protesting Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza ended early Thursday, leaving the facility trashed and covered with graffiti. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators barricaded the multistory Student Services Building on Wednesday and workers inside were told to shelter in place, but it was empty by Thursday morning, said university spokesperson Erik Frost Hollins. CBS: On social media, the protesters said university President Berenecea Johnson Eanes “continues to dance around and repress our divestment demands,” referencing calls for the university to halt any funding or financial support of businesses tied to Israel. “We’ve been waiting for a response to our demands for 18 days,” according to the group. “There is no more time to spare while families are being massacred by U.S. Imperialism with each minute that passes” (CBS).

Report Emerges Detailing Israel’s Heroic Operation Rescuing Four Hostages
Israel Hayom: A new report shows the great lengths at which Israel went before deciding to launch the daring raid on the Nuseirat refugee camp, which culminated with the rescue of four hostages held by. According to the report, on May 12, Israeli intelligence uncovered information about the location of four hostages in the Nuseirat refugee camp area of the Gaza Strip. From that moment on, every Israeli intelligence branch focused their efforts around the clock to pinpoint the exact location. Undercover operatives, adept at blending into the local population, were dispatched to the Nuseirat market area. Their mission was twofold: to gather intelligence from residents and to verify information obtained through interrogations of detained individuals associated with Hamas. Aerial observation and sophisticated technological means also played a crucial role in collecting intelligence. After 19 days of intensive collaborative efforts, the various units managed to compile accurate intelligence about the locations where the Israeli hostages were being held. It was discovered that Noa Argamani, 26, was confined on the first floor of one building, while the three other hostages – Almog Meir Jan, 21, Andrey Kozlov, 27, and Shlomi Ziv, 40 – were held captive on the third floor of another building approximately 800 meters away (Israel Hayom).

Falsely Accused WSJ Reporter Evan Gershkovich Indicted in Russian Court
Wall Street Journal: Russian prosecutors said they have approved an indictment of Evan Gershkovich, the Wall Street Journal reporter held in Russia for over a year, falsely accusing him of espionage and referring his case to a trial court, where he could face a series of secret, closed-door hearings. The 32-year-old reporter, whom the U.S. government deems wrongfully detained, has been held in Moscow’s Lefortovo Prison since March 29 last year, on an allegation that he, the Journal and the U.S. government vehemently deny. At the time of his detention, Gershkovich, who is a U.S. citizen, was accredited to work in Russia. In a statement Thursday, Russian authorities falsely said that Gershkovich was gathering information about a defense contractor on behalf of the Central Intelligence Agency. In fact, Gershkovich was on a reporting assignment for the Journal. Russian authorities haven’t publicly presented evidence to back up their allegations (Wall Street Journal). ABC: The U.S. has been negotiating the release of both Gershkovich and Paul Whelan since not long after their detentions. Whelan, a former U.S. Marine, was also accused of spying in 2018 and convicted in June 2020. Like Gershkovich, he has been declared wrongfully detained by the U.S. government (ABC).

Townhall: Former President Donald Trump’s meeting with GOP leaders in Washington appeared to have gone well after the much-anticipated event rendered attention. Trump touted the closed-door meeting as a success with GOP firebrands such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), saying that there is “tremendous unity in the Republican Party.” While the former president blamed Biden for the country’s downfall, such as the presence of Russian warships in Cuba and U.S. military members being denied a pay raise, Trump seemed to thank the Democratic Party for the massive fundraising and popularity boost he received from its political persecution against him (Townhall). Ted Cruz: Just had lunch with President Trump. He met with all the GOP senators. There was remarkable unity in the room—everyone is focused on winning in November & turning the country around. Together, we’re going to beat inflation, stop funding Iran & secure the border (X)!
