Hi John - When I came to the United States at age 9, fleeing political unrest in my home country of Ecuador, I was lucky in many ways. I had my parents with me and we came at a time when our immigration system was still relatively welcoming. Children trying to escape terrible situations in their home countries these days are not so lucky, especially those kids who are making the journey without their parents. And now kids seeking safety in the U.S. are being sent straight back to dangerous areas of Mexico or to the very countries they were trying to flee. We’re working in a coalition with other organizations to convince the Trump administration that now more than ever, vulnerable kids need to be able to find safety in the U.S. We are advocating for proper health screenings to be put into place to protect public health without shutting down asylum. I know times are tough for many of us right now, but I’m asking you to help support all our work on behalf of kids at the U.S. border – and kids at risk everywhere – with a financial contribution. Donate $10, $25 or whatever you can afford today and your support will be doubled, thanks to a generous donor who will match all contributions up to $20,000! Coronavirus is testing our nation in unprecedented ways. We must not allow fear to cause us to treat children in inhumane ways. Help us show that we can still be a welcoming country for vulnerable kids, even during a pandemic. Make a contribution today and double your impact for kids. Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
