John – after 32 years, I’m teaching my last class tomorrow.

In case you missed it: I’m taking a leave of absence next school year, to focus 100% of my energy on helping end gun violence in schools and communities.

Since surviving the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting almost 12 years ago, I’ve dedicated my life to ending the gun violence crisis.

Along the way, I’ve met so many teachers and school staff who, like me, are sick and tired of this violent status quo and rising up to end it.

I know that educators can lead the change we need. We just need to be heard. And during my time away from the classroom, I’m going to ensure that happens.

I’m not thinking of this leave as just stepping away from teaching – I’m stepping into a full-time amplification of my fellow teachers’ voices.
