LaCava's Column FISCAL YEAR 2025 BUDGET IS UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTED The City Council was unified and unanimous in the adoption of a balanced budget to serve all San Diegans. The Council’s final modifications build upon Mayor Gloria’s priority to protect our progress and are the result of a new, transparent process for the council's budget review. As the public’s budget priorities evolve, so has the City, placing roads, homelessness, and public safety at the top of the list. This year's budget is also the product of the financial reality of rising costs and lagging revenue. This trend requires new future funding sources to sustain the infrastructure and programs San Diegans desire and demand. CHANGING OF THE GUARD San Diego’s 36th Chief of Police, Scott Wahl, is officially sworn in. Chief Wahl's dedication to public service, accountability, transparency, and San Diego, has been apparent at every step of his career, including as Northern Division Captain. I am confident that under Chief Wahl’s leadership, the City of San Diego will remain one of the safest big cities in America. Congratulations, Chief. I look forward to working together. CATCH A RIDE ON THE COASTER CONNECTION The newly running North County Transit COASTER Connection is a convenient and environmentally friendly first-last mile solution for passengers disembarking at the Sorrento Valley Coaster Station. Unlimited trips are included with COASTER's regional monthly, day, or 5 and 10 packs. Thank you to everyone who came together to restore this vital service to a major employment area, especially NCTD, for stepping up!
