Earlier today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision to preserve access to mifepristone, a critical medication used in medication abortion care. This ruling ensures that individuals will continue to have access to safe and effective reproductive health care options.
The fact that we were waiting on judges to make a decision about a safe, effective, and essential medication is absolutely reprehensible. Communities deserve care grounded in science and evidence, not political opinion.
I wanted you to see my statement below on the importance of this ruling and celebrating the work done by our community to help make this possible.

Today, we celebrate a landmark victory for abortion access and scientific integrity. The Supreme Court of the United States has dismissed the FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine case on standing, ensuring that mifepristone remains available as it is today, nationwide. This decision is a testament to the power of evidence, science, and the unwavering advocacy of our community.

“Today’s ruling is in alignment with medical evidence and with what our communities need and deserve in order to live full, healthy lives. Regardless of what happens in the court, abortion care, and medication abortion care specifically, will always be a part of that. This ruling is especially significant as we approach the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, the decision that catalyzed the rapid unfurling of dangerous bans and restrictions on abortion. Today’s decision reflects and acknowledges the dire short- and long-term consequences abortion restrictions impose and demonstrates a valuing of science, medical expertise, and centering the needs of our communities. The Court’s dismissal on standing allows us to center the medical recognition of the facts is a powerful affirmation of what we have always known: mifepristone is a safe and essential medication, and there is no legitimate medical or scientific reason why access to mifepristone should be limited.
