JOHN, If you think the basic right to have autonomy over your reproductive health care decisions is increasingly at risk due to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, wait—there is more. And it gets even worse, if that is possible.
When Roe was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2022, abortions were completely banned in Missouri with vague exceptions to “save the life of the mother.” But this denial of personal choice is only the beginning.
Now Republicans are brazenly preparing to limit or eliminate access to contraception and in-vitro fertilization (IVF). These threats have nothing to do with the real needs of Missourians, but simply fall in line with a national MAGA agenda to take away personal freedom and maximize government control over personal choices. We saw the fallout from a judicial decision in Alabama that forbids access to IVF. There is nothing to stop this from happening here.
Our own U.S. Senators have already begun undermining such freedoms. Senators Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt, both Republicans who claim to be pro-family and in favor of limited government, voted against a bill that would ensure a right to contraceptives for anyone who wants or needs it. |
