Dear John, It was an honor to host the 2024 FairVote Awards in New York City, celebrating leaders in the democracy reform movement! I’m writing to share highlights with you, and to invite you to support our fund honoring Rob Richie and Cynthia Richie Terrell – two of FairVote’s co-founders and passionate warriors for responsive and representative government. During the event, I unveiled our next multi-year strategy to “build, win, and sustain” use of ranked choice voting (RCV) across the country. This renewed vision is about more than winning in one city, county, or state – it is about creating a movement that advances better elections and better government across the United States. We celebrated Eric Liu and Rashad Robinson, each of whom received an award for their groundbreaking work to strengthen democracy. Eric spoke of combining civic engagement with structural reform, and Rashad spoke about rethinking our electoral systems for lasting racial justice. Both discussed the possibilities ahead for our movement. At the end of the night, I went onstage with FairVote Board Chair Danielle Allen and FairVote Action Board Member Andrew Yang to make a final call for support. Andrew made a $3,200 commitment to the Rob Richie and Cynthia Richie Terrell Fund for FairVote’s Future, and encouraged everyone to give a multiple of $32 – or any amount – to the Fund. Rob and Cynthia started FairVote 32 years ago, culminating in their “Generational Impact Award” at the event – a fitting nod to their work. Between now and September 15, the names of all donors to the Fund will be added to a donor recognition wall at FairVote’s office. This wall will be the first of its kind for FairVote; it will honor our co-founders, as well as those who are making RCV available to Americans across the country. The promise of greater voter choice and a responsive government has never been more urgent or more possible. I encourage you to donate to the Rob and Cynthia Fund today! Ever grateful for your support, Meredith Sumpter
