The U.S. Census Bureau today announced plans to modernize the Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC) of the Current Population Survey (CPS).?The CPS, which is sponsored jointly by the Census Bureau and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), is the primary source of labor force statistics in the nation, a key Principal Federal Economic Indicator (PFEI).
In addition to providing data on the labor force status of the population, the CPS is used to collect data for a variety of studies on the entire U.S. population and specific population subsets. These studies, or supplemental surveys, keep the nation informed of the economic and social well-being of its people and are used by federal and state agencies, private foundations, and other organizations.
The biggest planned enhancement to the ASEC is the addition of an Internet Self Response mode. Continue reading to learn more about this and other updates.?
