John,
Last week we had a big win. After weeks of pressure from Labor, trade unions and businesses, Parliament finally passed a wage subsidy. As a result, six million workers will get the support they need to stay in their jobs.
But our work is far from over. We know that the wage subsidy doesn’t go far enough. More than one million casual workers are still missing out. So are a lot of charity and NDIS workers, workers at universities and local government, some visa holders, and those working in the arts and entertainment industry.
That’s why I’m asking for your help to call on the Government to include these people in their wage subsidy.
Will you add your voice and join our campaign for a wage subsidy that doesn’t leave anyone behind?
We want the Government to get this right. It’s our responsibility to make practical suggestions to improve Australia’s response to the coronavirus pandemic – because people’s lives and livelihoods depend on it.
Many of Labor’s practical suggestions have been adopted by the Government, including:
All these measures were put forward by Labor. All these measures are making a difference – and so would expanding the wage subsidy. But we can’t win this fight alone.
Your support has helped us get this far, but we can’t stop now. People are relying on us – and we can’t let them down.
Stay healthy. Stay safe.
