Internet Safety Month   Dear Friends, Earlier this week, protesters spoke up during Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference asking the company to build their products safe by design. As Apple touts new technologies, thousands of child sexual abuse images and videos continue to be stored and shared on their services. Enough Is Enough (EIE) stands with the Heat Initiative and other allies in calling on Apple to help protect the safety, well-being, and dignity of children. Big Tech develops safer by design technology, right out of the box, and child safety default features are turned ON rather than OFF on all devices and online platforms!" - Donna Rice Hughes (2021 Ted Talk) Children continue to face horrific abuses across countless social media platforms and apps, and Congress has yet to pass several bills that would help ensure their protection. Something must be done. -- Join us in urging Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to bring a package of online child protection legislation to the Senate floor for a vote. -- The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), the EARN IT Act, and the STOP CSAM Act strengthen current policies to protect children from exploitation and abuse by holding tech companies accountable for the spread of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online. The package of child protection legislation has already passed out of committee. A full Senate vote would be monumental progress on this issue. Please, take two minutes to call Leader Schumer’s office in Washington, D.C. by dialing 202-224-6542 [OR #250 and say ‘online child safety.] No matter where you live, urge him to call a vote on KOSA (S.1409), the EARN IT Act (S.1207) and the STOP CSAM Act (S.1199). By The Numbers   In 2023, NCMEC’s CyberTipline received 36.2 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation online containing more than 105 million images, videos and other files. Reports of online enticement increased more than 300% between 2021 – 2023. (NCMEC, January 2024) The U.S. hosts more child sexual abuse content online than any other country. (Internet Watch Foundation, 2022) Since 1994, EIE has been fighting to make the internet safer for children and families.
