LNG is methane gas extracted through fracking and has no place in a clean energy future.
The vast majority of existing and proposed LNG export facilities are on the Gulf Coast, often in Black, Brown, and low-income communities. These areas are already dealing with skyrocketing cancer and respiratory health risks due to pollution, as well as plummeting property values.
But we're making progress!
The good news is that our actions to stop this dirty and dangerous fossil fuel and protect our communities are already working. Earlier this year, the Biden administration temporarily paused new export approvals of LNG while they reviewed the process for determining whether these facilities are in the public interest. This action happened because more than 400,000 people like you across the United States spoke up.
We must keep up the momentum to protect our families and future. Demand that the Biden administration make the pause permanent and stop dirty gas export projects once and for all.
Using tactics from the tobacco industry's playbook, the gas industry is doing everything they can to convince the public that these operations are safe.
They are deliberately hiding the health harms caused by burning their product. There is nothing "natural" about burning methane gas at home or abroad through LNG exports. The extraction, processing, transport, and burning of gas threaten clean air and clean water and contribute to respiratory, cardiovascular, and other serious health harms.
If fossil fuel companies get their way, the number of LNG facilities will quadruple in the next few years. That's four times more climate-disrupting pollution. That's four times more chances for environmental disasters like spills, explosions, and damage from hurricanes. And that's four times more poisonous chemicals affecting the health of Gulf communities.
Act now to ensure new facked LNG export terminals never see the light of day. |
