start of yet another dangerously hot summer. The severe heat wave
dominating the U.S. Southwest this week has led to heat-related
hospitalizations, wildfires, closures of recreational areas, temperatures
as high as 112 degrees, and asphalt temperatures as high as 162 degrees.^1

In fact, we’ve reached 12 consecutive months of broken heat records^2 and
are on track for worsening heat conditions every year of our lives unless
we act.

This is a climate emergency — and we cannot wait any longer for Congress

There is no hiding from the truth: the climate crisis is real, it's here,
and it’s responsible for more and more deaths every year. Our leaders
cannot continue to wait to take climate action, the time is right now. The
White House has the chance to approve new heat safety rules!^3

This is why this coalition is not letting up on the fight for a Green New
Deal. We need investments in our community to prepare for the heat, update
our infrastructure, and protect our most vulnerable communities.
