ACLU Supporter, The Supreme Court just unanimously rejected a request by anti-abortion politicians to impose medically unnecessary restrictions on mifepristone, a safe and effective medication used in almost two-thirds of abortions nationwide. With abortion access already severely restricted, the availability of mifepristone is critically important. While this is certainly good news, it's no secret that the relentless attacks on abortion care are far from over. The ability for our legal team to continue responding swiftly to cases like this is a direct result of community members like you who care about abortion rights and who lend their support where it is most needed. Would you join us now in this urgent moment by rushing a gift – even $35 goes a long way – to fuel this ongoing fight?
ACLU Supporter, since its FDA approval nearly 25 years ago, 6 million people in the U.S. have safely used mifepristone to end pregnancies and for miscarriage treatment. Yet, extreme anti-abortion groups have pushed their agenda – advancing junk science, flawed research, and testimony from witnesses who lack credibility and who oppose abortion in all circumstances. That's why the ACLU swiftly filed an amicus brief in this case. And while today's decision by the Court offers a temporary sigh of relief, we know the attacks on our access to reproductive health care will continue in full force. Anti-abortion politicians have already vowed to continue their efforts to prevent people from getting medication abortion care if they need it. And SCOTUS will soon rule in another case on whether politicians can force hospital doctors to withhold emergency care from patients suffering from severe pregnancy complications. That's not to mention how extreme state judges in the last few months have issued rulings that shut down IVF clinics and resurrected a Civil War-era abortion ban. This is the cruel reality they want to force on us, one where politicians hold the power to decide what happens to our bodies. We cannot and will not let them win. We at the ACLU are committed to continuing this fight to protect abortion care no matter what – in the courts, on Capitol Hill, and across the nation. But we can't do it alone. As new developments emerge, we'll keep you updated on how your contributions can make a difference in the fight for abortion access. Fighting for freedom together, Jennifer Dalven |
