John — Will you add your name to the campaign to save congestion pricing?
Yesterday we assembled a broad coalition of subway and bus riders, disabled New Yorkers, business leaders, MTA board members, climate advocates, and legal experts to announce our plan to explore all legal options to reverse Governor Hochul’s disastrous decision to cancel congestion pricing.
We are counting on congestion pricing to generate $15 billion to fund the system’s capital projects enabling us to modernize ancient subway signals, construct elevators at stations across the City, and finally finish the 2nd Avenue Subway.
Let’s be clear: Governor Hochul’s terrible decision to cancel congestion pricing means canceling many of those projects. MTA President Janno Lieber was clear about that earlier this week.
Her action also violates New York State law. The state legislature voted to adopt congestion pricing in 2019 after extensive testimony and deliberation, and the (then) governor signed the bill into law. Governor Hochul does not have the unilateral authority to revoke it.

Congestion pricing is more than just a capital plan for the MTA. It will decrease traffic congestion, lower asthma rates and carbon emissions, and make our streets safer.
While the vast majority of commuters into Manhattan take the subway, there are some people who drive in. So it’s understandable that some people have raised voices in opposition. But everywhere around the world that congestion pricing has been implemented, drivers adjust, traffic is reduced, transit improves, opposition diminishes over time — and we all reap the benefits.
This is a time for leadership. That’s why we’ve assembled a strong coalition of New Yorkers to explore all legal avenues, including multiple potential lawsuits, to resume New York City’s congestion pricing plan, as required by law.
Our subway system, a lifeline for our city’s residents and businesses, cannot succeed without a sustainable funding stream. A robust, reliable transit system is the backbone of NYC’s economy.
Together, we can ensure a future of better transit, less traffic, cleaner air, and a more thriving New York City.
But only if we act now.
Thank you,
Brad
P.S. I believe our city deserves better, and our future depends on the full implementation of congestion pricing. If you agree, show your support for a transit system that is reliable and sustainable and sign the congestion pricing petition today.
