My team and I just walked through some of the math we’re up against as we try to hold down this battleground seat here in OR-06. Let me be clear about this: I’m certainly not panicking. (I’m never panicking, and if I were, the first thing I’d do is talk to my family, not send out a campaign email.) But there’s no escaping the conclusion that we need more grassroots support to win this race.
So, the math. The first number: $5,500,000. That’s how much money just ONE of the many GOP super PACs targeting this seat just reserved in airtime in our media market. That’s enough to pay for nonstop attack ads against me this fall. The second number: $2,767,350. That’s how much money my MAGA opponent gave to his own campaign in 2022 to try to defeat me — and you can bet he’ll throw even more money into this rematch. The third number: 7,210. That’s how many votes we won by in 2022. Not very many in a district that’s home to over 700,000 people. In fact, it was such a nail-biter that we didn’t even know if I’d won or lost until several days after the election. I’m not telling you this because I want you to feel worried or, worse, hopeless about this election. I’m telling you this because I truly believe we can win this race — but I know that the only way to do it is by growing our grassroots war chest, dollar by dollar. We’ve got 17 days before our next FEC fundraising deadline hits. After walking through all the data, my team and I increased our goal by $25,000, and now we need to do the work to hit it — which we can do if just half the people reading this email pitch in at least $5.
