The opponents of climate action have taken their attack to the next level.
Threatened by the enormous business momentum toward a decarbonized U.S. economy, they are engaged in a broad political campaign to derail this progress toward a clean energy future.
Yesterday, Mindy Lubber, our CEO and President, was called to testify before a subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, because of spurious allegations that our global investor initiatives represent improper collusion of investors. We have been accused of leading an alleged “climate cartel.”
As we have clearly stated, this assertion is untrue, and Ceres is on sound legal footing in every aspect of our work.
Climate risk is a material financial risk that, if left unchecked, threatens shareholder value. Prudent investors and companies need to manage this risk, as well as the resulting investment and business opportunities. Those who fail to do so will be left behind.
For more than two hours, some committee members tried to turn these well-understood facts into an ideological battle. But we’ll endure hours of testimony to remind them that the facts are the facts. Watch Mindy’s full testimony.
Thanks to you, Ceres remains as steadfast in our mission as we were at our founding 35 years ago. Together, we’ll push past politics and focus on what truly matters: the business transition to a low-carbon economy that is already producing enormous benefits, including creating hundreds of thousands of jobs, economic wealth, and growth for investors and companies.
With our partners by our side, we will keep the momentum going toward a more just and sustainable future.
With gratitude,
Susan Sayers

P.S. Last year, the Committee issued a subpoena asking us to produce documents related to Ceres and some of the global initiatives we are a part of. Since then, Ceres has delivered tens of thousands of documents to the Committee. Yesterday’s hearing was an expected result of that process. You can learn more about the hearing here. If you find these efforts to derail our progress as infuriating as I do, I hope you’ll make a gift to support our mission—because there’s a lot of real work to do.
