PAWS Chicago’s Giving Day is just a week away. But there’s a reason to celebrate early. Her name is Stargazer.

When we met Stargazer, you could see each of this pup's tiny ribs through her stretched skin—she’d been starved. Six months old and curled up in a tight ball at the city impoundment facility, we simply couldn’t leave without her.  

As we approach our 3rd annual Giving Day, Stargazer's journey reminds us we’re approaching another hurdle in the homeless pet crisis sweeping across Chicago and the nation.

Increased pet abandonment, homelessness, and euthanasia rates are straining the animal welfare system. And with warmer weather, waves of new puppies and kittens, like Stargazer and Panda, found as a stray and exposed to a deadly intestinal virus, are being born.  

PAWS is doing everything we can to help, but this is a crucial moment. The only way to prevent an even greater surge this fall is by increasing our lifesaving efforts, including our free and low-cost spay/neuter program, right now.
