After the Settlement: Oregon's Efforts to Increase CIE
Wednesday, June 26, 2024
3:00-4:00 p.m. ET

The National Employment First Community of Practice (CoP) Webinar Series augments the technical assistance areas of Employment First systems change (Capacity Building, Provider Transformation, School-to-Work Transition, Employer Engagement, and Policy/Funding Alignment). CoP participants benefit from national subject matter experts (SMEs) presenting information and resources to support Employment First efforts.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the landmark Olmstead v. L.C. Supreme Court ruling, this webinar highlights the work being done in Oregon, and their efforts to expand Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) in the state following the conclusion of their state settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice, also known as Lane v. Brown. This webinar will explore the many activities the state has taken to ensure people in the state are able to secure competitive integrated employment and will discuss in detail recent efforts to form partnerships across various agencies. The webinar will also provide perspectives from providers and people with lived experiences who have benefitted from the state settlement as well as success stories from people working in competitive integrated employment.

- Hear about the variety of projects and collaborations the state has undertaken.

Speaker Bios

Allison Enriquez
Employment Services Manager
Oregon's Office of Developmental Disabilities Services

Allison Enriquez has worked with Oregon?s Office of Developmental Disabilities Services since 2014. Most of her work at ODDS has focused on the development and implementation of policies to increase employment and career advancement for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities as part of Oregon?s Employment First initiatives. She is currently serving as the ODDS Employment Services Manager and Oregon?s Statewide Employment First Coordinator. Allison previously worked for provider organizations in Oregon and New York. She is an attorney who, in her earlier years, interned with various organizations on efforts to draft and develop the United Nations Disability Rights Convention. She also has a Masters degree in Guidance and Habilitation.

Kathy Schlotfeldt
Executive Director
MV Advancements

Kathy Schlotfeldt has worked for MV Advancements (MVA) for nine years, prior to that she was on the Board of Directors of MVA. Kathy is the Executive Director of MVA and oversees the day-to-day operations of the non-profit. Beginning in July of 2015, when the State of Oregon closed the front door of sheltered workshops, she was instrumental in leading the transformation of two sheltered workshops. Kathy earned her Bachelor?s in Business Administration from the University of Portland. She spent most of her working career in the for-profit world until she realized in 2010 that her business experience was a perfect fit for non-profit organizations seeking more professional management and strategic planning.
Her passion for MV Advancements comes from her brother Wally. Wally was deprived of oxygen at birth and as a result, his development was delayed. He didn?t walk until he was five and his vocabulary is about 50 words. Being on Wally?s team for the past 25 year, Kathy knows the value of high-quality support services for people with disabilities and Wally inspires her to ensure that services at MVA are leading edge and person-centered, empowering individuals to live their best life. When not at work she enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.
