**THE FORUM DAILY**A group of immigrant rights organizations represented by the American Civil Liberties Union is suing the Biden administration over the recent executive actions on asylum and border restrictions, report Seung Min Kim and Rebecca Santana of the Associated Press [link removed].????

"By enacting an asylum ban that is legally indistinguishable from the Trump ban we successfully blocked, we were left with no choice but to file this lawsuit," said ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt.??

The plaintiffs argue that the administration's new rule "violates statutes that permit migrants to apply for asylum 'whether or not' they arrive at an official port of entry, goes against federal code that says a migrant already within the U.S. can apply for asylum, and creates unlawful migrant-screening regulations, reports Alejandro Serrano of The Texas Tribune [link removed].??

"President Biden's recent executive order flies in the face of our entire asylum system and has no cognizable basis to support it," said Jennifer Babaie of Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, one of the groups involved in the lawsuit.??

The Department of Homeland Security did not comment on the lawsuit directly but stated, "The Securing the Border rule is lawful, is critical to strengthening border security, and is already having an impact. The challenged actions remain in effect, and we will continue to implement them."?? ??

**SMUGGLING** - The Biden administration is ramping up efforts to interrupt human smuggling through the Dari??n Gap, reports Sandra Sanchez of Border Report [link removed]. The efforts are a part of Joint Task Force Alpha, which has been focused on taking down major criminal operations in Mexico and Central American countries. "We are using every tool at our disposal to disrupt and dismantle the human smuggling networks that have spread misery throughout the Western Hemisphere," said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco.??

**ECONOMIC POTENTIAL** - Leaders in the Ellis Island Initiative want to recognize the economic potential of migrants coming into New York, reports Jack Arpey of Spectrum News 1 [link removed]. The bipartisan coalition of state and local leaders wants to find ways to get the most out of migration. "We want to make sure that folks are really thinking about what is it that we can do, and how can we make sure that the arrival of these asylum seekers can play a big economic benefit to local communities and the state," said lead strategist Steven Choi.??

**EVICTION** - Massachusetts officials are moving forward with plans to put time limits on shelter stays, reports Kelly Garrity of Politico [link removed]. Gov. Maura Healey (D) will send 90-day eviction notices starting next month, despite advocates' disapproval. "As Congress has repeatedly failed to act on this federal problem, Massachusetts has been going above and beyond," Healey said.??

**OPPORTUNITY** - In a piece for the Washington Business Journal [link removed], William Trumbull and David Hunn of the Virginia Career Works Northern Region take a look at the opportunities around the integration of the legal-immigrant workforce. They lay out steps to reinforce integration and conclude, "Continued emphasis and focus on legal international immigration into Northern Virginia will be a key element of our region's growth and economic vitality."????
