Federal action that positively reforms our immigration system seems farther away than it was a decade ago, in the wake of the upcoming 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which provides undocumented immigrants who came into the United States as children the ability to work and much more.
As DACA recipients and supporters await the decision of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, with an expected Supreme Court case decision after, their constant reminder of living in limbo has never been louder. If DACA is ruled unconstitutional, hundreds of thousands of our neighbors who are nurses, lawyers, teachers, and much more will have that ripped away.
DREAMers, newcomers, and undocumented families and individuals are all facing the effects of our government lacking the political will to create permanent immigration reform.
We need a humane and orderly immigration system that works for all communities—to secure lives with dignity and opportunity. It’s not too late for the Biden Administration and Congress to provide real proposals that invest in safe and legal immigration pathways.
We will continue our fight for immigrant rights here in New York State, which would not have been possible without the support of allies like YOU!
