US Southern Baptists vote to condemn IVF procedure in terrifying sign of what's to come
The Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the United States, voted to condemn the use of in vitro fertilization, signaling the campaign by radical, right-wing evangelicals against abortion and reproductive healthcare is widening to include the popular, pro-family, life-giving fertility treatment. Earlier at its annual meeting, a proposed amendment to the church's constitution that would have banned women as pastors fell just short of the two-thirds majority vote it needed to pass when 61% of attendees, or "messengers," banded together and pushed for a mind-numbingly stupid return to the Dark Ages. The Southern Baptist Convention includes 50,000 churches and over 14 million faithful and has become a dangerous political force in recent decades. The attack on IVF — and reproductive healthcare in general — is not a fringe movement. This is the base of the Republican Party and the centerpiece issue in their moral crusade against modernity. Money raised by the convicted felon's 2024 campaign is conveniently being funneled right into his pockets in various forms, according to a new report from Forbes based on Federal Election Commission records. The disgraced ex-president and self-proclaimed billionaire has, of course, not donated any money personally to his 2024 presidential campaign, but he is certainly charging others for it. According to the records, at least $4.6 million worth of campaign money has been transferred from his campaign to his crooked business empire. This is above and beyond the millions in legal fees Trump has duped his MAGA faithful into covering on his behalf. Grifters gonna grift, grift, grift, grift, grift.

Having burned his reputation and relative wealth to the ground, the 80-year-old nut job is now predictably playing the health card, claiming that a "possible" 9/11-related lung disease picked up from his time as mayor of New York City is to blame for his diminished earning capacity. Giuliani's lawyers are feebly arguing against a court-ordered third-party financial overseer in his ongoing bankruptcy case and are asking that his diminished health be taken into account in any further rulings. While Giuliani, who is currently facing another felony indictment in Arizona, very may well be suffering from health complications due to his presence at Ground Zero in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks, his steadfast commitment to undermining democracy and his outspoken contempt for the rule of law cannot be understated or overlooked. The man is a crook, plain and simple.

A damning new Washington Post investigation found that over the past 20 years in the United States, hundreds of enforcement officers have sexually abused children, while authorities at all levels of the criminal justice system failed to protect children, punish offenders, and prevent further crimes. Botched background checks, ignoring red flags, and poor handling of investigations have contributed to the problem. Accused police officers have used their legal skills to avoid prosecution, reduce charges, or avoid conviction. Between 2005 and 2022 the Post identified at least 1,800 state and local police officers who have been charged with crimes related to child sexual abuse. The majority of the victims were female, with an average age of 14. According to the sweeping investigation, nearly 40% of the officers accused of committing heinous crimes avoided prison sentences altogether. Make it make sense.

The 216-207 vote fell along party lines with a single Republican — Rep. David Joyce of Ohio — voting against the measure. Garland becomes the third attorney general to be held in contempt of Congress. Yet it is unlikely that the Justice Department — which Garland oversees — will prosecute him.
