The Affordable Care Act is playing a vital role in responding to the coronavirus pandemic, but regardless, the Trump Administration is refusing to reopen enrollment, putting all of the states that use the federal exchange at risk -- including Ohio.

It's a reckless decision -- there are 28 million Americans without insurance, and as millions of workers lose their jobs due to the current health crisis, more Americans are at risk of losing coverage.

The ACA has given health care to 20 million Americans who could otherwise be uninsured during a pandemic and it's prevented insurers from refusing to cover nearly 133 million Americans with pre-existing conditions -- a massive group that's more susceptible to developing COVID-19 symptoms.

TELL THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO REOPEN ACA ENROLLMENT >>

The Trump Administration's dangerous decision to not reopen the ACA enrollment period not only threatens millions of Americans' health, it also threatens their financial security. Uninsured Americans with COVID-19 could end up paying an estimated average of $73,300 for treatment. That's 10 times more than someone with health insurance.

Americans shouldn't have to sacrifice their health because they're worried about affording their medical bills -- especially in the middle of a pandemic.

The Trump Administration would like us to believe that protecting the economy should be our top priority right now. But here's the truth: We need to make it our first priority to protect American lives -- because it's those Americans who make our economy work in the first place.

Will you add your name to mine and call on the Trump Administration to immediately reopen enrollment for ACA coverage?

With gratitude,

Sherrod
