Hi John,

I wanted to reach out and see if you’re interested in joining OLCV’s very first book club!

As a published author and OLCV’s Digital Coordinator, I’ve always loved books, especially those with environmental themes. Books not only entertain us, but help us share ideas and connect with others, especially when we’re physically distanced from one another.

I’ve never been part of a book club before, and I’m so excited to get started. OLCV’s book club—meeting over Zoom video chat—will be a fun way to make new friends, share ideas, and discuss some amazing books with environmental themes. Interested? You can sign up here for more info: [link removed]

We’re kicking things off with an epic Pulitzer Prize winning novel about activism, resistance, and the natural world—The Overstory by Richard Powers.

"From the roots to the crown and back to the seeds, Richard Powers’s twelfth novel unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late twentieth-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. There is a world alongside ours—vast, slow, interconnected, resourceful, magnificently inventive, and almost invisible to us. This is the story of a handful of people who learn how to see that world and who are drawn up into its unfolding catastrophe."

This book has been on my to-read list for a long time. I hope you’ll join me in reading it!

If you decide to sign up, I’ll send you a follow-up email with some suggestions on where to buy the book, a poll for which meeting date works for you, and details about meeting over Zoom video chat. You can sign up here: [link removed]

Please let me know if you have any questions, or suggestions (fiction or nonfiction!) for future book club picks. And please pass this on to your friends and family, and all book-lovers in your life—everyone is welcome to join!

I hope to hear from you soon,
Francesca Varela
Digital Coordinator, OLCV

Staying in touch via the Oregon League of Conservation Voters’ email list is the best way we have of keeping in regular contact with supporters like you and letting you know about the ways you can take action to protect the environment. You can [link removed] from our supporter list, but if you leave, it will be harder for you to stay involved with OLCV and continue the work that you’ve been such a critical part of. OLCV wins environmental policy fights and elections because of dedicated activists like you, and we’d hate to see you go.
