John,
As the mother of three boys, I know the terror a parent feels when there is an active shooter alert at their children’s school.
I'll never forget the layers of emotions: the panic, fear, and then the absolute sense of helplessness—feeling that there is nothing you can do to protect them, whether they are thousands of miles away or just a mile down the road.
This Gun Violence Awareness Month reminds us of the deadliest epidemic facing American children. Across our country, too many of our children endure school lockdowns, and too many of us have lost loved ones to gun violence.
And unfortunately, my Democratic opponent is part of the problem. She sided with the NRA to vote against banning untraceable ghost guns – which are used in many crimes, often by criminals who shoot at first responders. And that’s not all – while the Washington legislature was passing a law to ban high-capacity magazines, my opponent tried and failed to pass carve-outs to the law.
For generations, the Sixth District has been represented by gun safety champions. In Congress, I will work to strengthen background checks, fund community violence prevention programs, and close loopholes that allow abusers and criminals to access firearms. I know we don’t have to choose between keeping our children safe and responsible gun ownership. We can’t go backward – we must ensure this seat stays in the hands of a Democrat who will fight for common-sense gun safety laws, not against them.
Will you join me this Gun Violence Awareness Month by contributing $5 or whatever you can afford today? Your support now will help send a gun-sense candidate to Congress in WA-06 who knows how to bring leaders from all sides together to deliver.
