Conservative AIPAC-backed candidate George Latimer is at it again (“it” being racism, Islamophobia, and homophobia), John.

On Monday during a debate in NY-16’s competitive Democratic primary race, Latimer used more dog whistles to attack progressive Rep. Jamaal Bowman:

AOC is right: These are bigoted comments from Latimer, who has directed multiple racist, Islamophobic insults at Jamaal for his pro-peace, pro-ceasefire stance throughout this race.

We can’t say we’re surprised by Latimer’s offensive attacks. AIPAC — the supposedly bipartisan anti-Palestinian lobby group that funded and picked Latimer to challenge Jamaal — only spends against (mostly Black and brown) incumbents in Democratic primaries.

Their super PAC has dropped more than $10 million against Jamaal so far, making this the most expensive House primary in U.S. history. And with 13 days until the election, we know they’re not finished yet.

Like Washington Post columnist Karen Attiah said this week:

“It’s hard to overstate the importance of the Bowman vs. Latimer showdown for progressives. The outcome represents much more than just the issue of money in politics. It raises concerns about right-wing money being funneled into Democratic primaries and tests the ability of AIPAC to shield Israel from criticism. But bigger than that, it is a test of how far America’s right wing will go to crush progressive movements. No one should be surprised that a Black politician is the canary in the coal mine.”

AIPAC’s network is using tens of millions of dollars from the same anti-abortion, anti-ceasefire, pro-insurrection donors who support Donald Trump to try and oust progressives like Jamaal. We can’t let them succeed, John.
