Today I am writing to you about a matter that is deeply important to me. Since the beginning of my career in public service, I’ve championed gun violence prevention measures and prioritized gun safety reform.
I supported the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to strengthen background checks and close loopholes, authored the STANDUP Act to help identify and provide support for students who show concerning behavior, and have stood up to the gun lobby time and time again.
While we have made progress, this work has remained as urgent as ever as gun violence rates continue to skyrocket each year.
Today also marks 8 years since 49 people were killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, one of the worst mass shootings and the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ+ community our country has ever seen. As we reflect on this somber anniversary, we must recommit to fighting for a safer future. Let’s honor their lives with action, and end the scourge of gun violence once and for all.
Will you join me in demanding Congress take immediate action on common-sense gun reform by adding your name today?
I was honored to join San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention to kick off National Gun Violence Awareness Month. I’m also grateful to have a team that is dedicated to this critical work.
As a lawmaker and as a father, these avoidable acts of violence are a painful reminder of what's at stake.
Our nation has experienced far too many gun-related tragedies — we have the power to make progress, but your voice is needed to demand action.
