Newsom and Democrats have a new corrupt, cynical plan to manipulate
voters at the ballot box in an effort to let criminals roam free.
Democrats plan to add poison pill amendments to wannabe “tough on
crime” bills. We call them “poison pill amendments” because they are
catastrophic to our democracy and completely undermine Californians’
voices.
The poison pill amendments would force voters into a false choice
between the legislature’s “tough on crime” bills and a citizen-led
initiative that makes real progress in combatting crime by repealing
parts of Prop 47.
Prop 47 passed in 2014 and decriminalized theft, drug possession,
and a slew of other crimes. Since then, there’s been nearly a 60%
increase in homelessness. Retail theft is up 29% in the past 2 years.
California is a national embarrassment as criminals
roam free and law-abiding citizens live in fear.
Californians are rightfully fed up, which is why the effort to
repeal Prop 47 got over 900,000 signatures. It will be on the ballot
this November as the “Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Retail Theft
Act.”
Despite the overwhelming support for change, Democrats are too
embarrassed to admit their mistake with Prop 47. They’ve been
defending it for years and they can’t stop now.
Jamming poison pill amendments to stop a citizen-led initiative is
anti-democracy. If Democrats just swallow their pride
and put Californians’ safety above politics, we could have both
citizen-led and legislative reforms. Watch my interview exposing the

As your Senate Republican Leader, I’m doing everything I can do to
STOP the hijacking of our democratic process and STOP these poison
pill amendments. I was an early endorser of the Prop 47 repeal
initiative and we are fighting to make crime illegal
again this November.
