Hi, John!
What happened in Wisconsin last week was a total mess: the Republican state legislatures and conservative courts forced voters to cast their ballots in person in the middle of a deadly pandemic, refusing to move the primary election or even the postmark date for mail-in ballots.
We can’t let that happen in any other states, not with so much on the line in the November general election.
That’s why it’s absolutely critical that the federal government pass election protections in the next coronavirus bill. Voto Latino has endorsed the use of early vote and vote-by-mail as two ways to encourage and facilitate an increase in Latinx voter participation, but there’s some additional things we need to ensure voting is easy, safe, and accessible for all:
- Send mail-in ballots to all registered voters, including prepaid postage, tracking, and acceptance of all ballots at voting centers, polling places, ballot drop-off boxes, or ballots postmarked by November 3. Allow sealed ballots to be collected and delivered by third parties like community organizations.
- Increase ease of voter registration by expanding online registration options, offering same-day voter registration, and including automatic voter registration in official interactions with state governments, with an opt-out option available.
If you agree that Congress must take action to ensure every voter can cast their ballot in the easiest and safest way possible in 2020, add your name to our petition now >>
No one should have to risk their health, spend hours waiting in line, or be left behind on Election Day. It’s on our leaders to make sure our democratic elections continue to be free and fair.
Stay informed, mis compañeros,
