Hi John,
Tomorrow is my 22nd birthday and I’ll be spending it in court. The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office is filing a new felony and misdemeanor charge against me.
As you may already know, I am currently facing years in prison for rescuing criminally abused chickens from Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. I’ve been forced to wear a GPS ankle monitor since December. *Now the prosecutors are bringing me back to court on my birthday to add two new charges: felony burglary and an additional count of misdemeanor trespass.
*
To make my birthday even more exciting, *farmers are organizing a counter-protest outside the courthouse to defend companies like Perdue and their right to factory farm animals.* The farmers will be protesting for two hours, but we have twenty-four hours of action planned because tomorrow, most importantly of all, is the one year anniversary of the Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse rescue.
One year ago, eighteen chickens were loaded into transport crates to be driven to the slaughterhouse. Some chickens, like Edward, were gasping for air as they struggled to breathe from respiratory infections. Others, like Poppy, were covered in scratches and wounds. They probably thought they were nearing the end of their lives, but it turned out that their lives were just about to truly begin.
What is happening now, facing charges, wearing an ankle monitor, and being counter-protested at the courthouse, is all worth it to know that they escaped the gruesome fates Perdue had planned for them.

And if you’re in Northern California, please come to court tomorrow at 8:00 am at 600 Administration Drive in Santa Rosa to celebrate animal rescue and pressure law enforcement to prosecute animal abuse. The twenty-four hours will begin with court and end with a vigil at the slaughterhouse. You can find more information here ( [link removed] ).
Thank you for your support,
Zoe
