Let’s take stock of what we’ve learned about Sam Alito recently.
First, the New York Times broke a story revealing that there was an upside-down flag — a symbol adopted by 2020 election deniers — displayed at Alito’s home as the court considered a case related to the 2020 election.
Then, we learned that a second flag — this time, one associated explicitly with Christian nationalism — was flying at Alito’s beach house.
Alito trotted out every excuse in the book; he blamed his neighbors and he blamed his wife. But in a secretly-recorded conversation with a journalist he thought was a fellow right-wing extremist, Alito finally revealed his true beliefs: he agrees that he and his allies must “return our country to a place of godliness” and that they cannot “negotiate with the left.”
And let’s not forget about Clarence Thomas. After a year of bombshell stories exposing his corruption, Thomas recently acknowledged that he should have included the $500,000 worth of luxury travel he accepted from his right-wing benefactor buddy Harlan Crow on his 2019 financial disclosure form.
But after twenty years of similar violations, that’s too little, too late — especially when the total value of gifts he’s received during his tenure on the court exceeds a whopping $2.4 million. To put that in perspective: that’s 10 times the value of ALL the gifts his fellow justices received during that time.
And that’s not even to mention Thomas’ refusal to recuse from cases related to the January 6 insurrection and Trump's attempt to overturn the election, despite his wife Ginni Thomas's participation in those efforts.
At this point, there’s no denying that both Alito and Thomas have disqualified themselves from serving on the Supreme Court. It’s time for Congress to step in and do something about it. Sign your name to ask Democratic leaders to subpoena Sam Alito and Clarence Thomas Thomas and hold emergency hearings to investigate their corruption.
Between Alito’s flag scandals and Thomas’ laundry list of misconduct, enough is enough. It’s going to take more than strongly worded letters and scolding tweets to hold these justices accountable, and it’s time for Senate Democrats to step on the gas.
Join our petition and ask Congress to subpoena these corrupt justices and start crucial investigations. The future of our democracy depends on it.
Thank you for raising your voice and fighting this urgent fight with us.
